Holy Bible, translated by João Ferreira de Almeida. The Revised and Updated Edition (1959, 1993) preserves the main characteristics of Almeida's formal equivalence translation, being the result of more than a decade of theological and linguistic revision and updating of the Revised and Corrected Edition. Equally faithful to the original texts, the language of the RA is lively, accessible, clear and noble, avoiding the excessively vulgar and excessively academic and literary.

The purpose of the review, which resulted in the Revised and Updated, was to format a text in “updated language without distorting certain very old language and all without straying from the original”. This means that the Revised and Updated, in addition to being faithful to the original and preserving Almeida’s style, is much less archaic than the old Almeida (preserved in the Revised and Corrected).

The great difference of the Revista e Atualizada – unknown to many – is its readability and sound. It was made to be read out loud.
